Lucy's story
Lucy was five months pregnant with her second child and living in a hostel when she was referred to our Parenthood Team. She was on a methadone script and using street drugs. Several agencies were trying to work with Lucy but she was not engaging with them. We organised a Problem Solving Meeting for Lucy and the other agencies to work out what support she needed and how this would be achieved.
Through persistent contact with Lucy, we helped her understand what she needed to do to keep her baby healthy. Working closely with services involved, we supported Lucy to ensure she attended antenatal and therapy appointments. We also supported Lucy at her child protection conference and made sure that she understood how she could best improve her chances of keeping her baby.
We have also supported Lucy to organise her benefits and make a homelessness application, which included liaising with her previous Housing Association to develop a payment plan for her outstanding debt. As a result, Lucy was provided with temporary accommodation. We will continue to support Lucy to achieve her goal of getting clean of drugs and being reunited with her baby.
